What is a Hiatal hernia? It is caused in the diaphragm opening when there are weak muscle tissues. The place in the stomach where the esophagus goes through is the location of the diaphragm. It can be a hereditary disease. Alternatively it may grow with time because of gaining weight, lifting heavy objects or during pregnancy etc.

A person suffering from Hiatal hernia should always avoid spicy food or food which has high content of acid, as such food will cause more discomfort. However, you may have a small portion of the above mentioned food but do not make it your staple diet. Do you like to eat grapefruit during breakfast? If yes, you will have to give it up. If you still continue eating, it is almost certain that it will aggravate your disease. In addition, avoid hot chillies as they also worsen this condition. Having these spices will make you sicker so if you want to live healthy avoid such food items.

In Hiatal hernia diet is the first thing to make note of. The correct eating plan should be taking small servings in a day. However, as you are eating small portion of food you need to eat again within few hours. This means that you may eat 6 small meals in a day or in other words eat after every 2-3 hours in a day. But it is not a good idea to eat your meal before you sleep. You should have it at least an hour prior to your sleeping time because the food takes time to digest and if you sleep right after your food the food will rise to your esophagus. This will cause problems like hernia. The preferred time for your dinner should be at 8 or 9 o’clock at night.
